چکیده

This paper presents a new quantization noise suppression method for a time-to-digital converter (TDC) and proposes an all-digital phase-locked loop (ADPLL) architecture using only standard cell logic gates. Using a new multiple input multiple output (MIMO) quantization noise suppression method provides an order of √ 2N improvement in TDC resolution with N parallel TDC channels. Suppressed noise in the TDC allows the ADPLL to achieve superior jitter performance in both theoretical calculations and simulation results. In order to allow fast portability between process nodes, short design cycle time, ease of modification, and flexibility, ADPLL architecture is designed completely in register transfer level intensive Verilog code and the implementation is synthesized in order to obtain final microelectronic design schematics. In comparison to similar work in the literature, postlayout simulation results show that the designed ADPLL achieves period jitter of 1.78 psrms with a layout area of 0.09 mm 2 in 65 nm CMOS process and power consumption of 17.5 mW at 800 MHz.

A 0.048mm 3mW Synthesizable Fractional-N PLL with a Soft Injection-Locking Technique

Phase-locked loops (PLLs) are a crucial building block in modern Systems-onChip (SoCs), which contain microprocessors, I/O interfaces, memories, power management, and communication systems. Fully synthesizable PLLs [1-2], designed using a pure digital design flow, have been proposed to reduce the design cost and allow easier integration. To achieve high-frequency resolution, PLLs are required t...

Techniques for high-performance digital frequency synthesis and phase control

This thesis presents a 3.6-GHz, 500-kHz bandwidth digital AE frequency synthesizer architecture that leverages a recently invented noise-shaping time-to-digital converter (TDC) and an all-digital quantization noise cancellation technique to achieve excellent in-band and out-of-band phase noise, respectively. In addition, a passive digital-toanalog converter (DAC) structure is proposed as an eff...

Low Settling Time All Digital DLL For VHF Application

Settling time is one of the most important parameter in design of DLLs. In this paper we propose a new high speed with low settling time Delay Locked Loop (DLL) in which a digital signal processor (DSP) is used instead of using phase-frequency detector, charge pump and loop filter in conventional DLL. To have better settling time, PRP conjugate gradient algorithm is used to optimize delay of ea...

A Fast-Locking All-Digital Deskew Buffer with DCC using Digital-Controlled Delay Line

This paper presents a wide range fast lock all-digital deskew buffer using a digital controlled delay line, which achieves low jitter, fast lock, low power consumption and 50% duty cycle correction. A cyclic time-to-digital converter is introduced to decrease the locking time in conventional register-controlled delay-locked loop. A balanced edge combiner to achieve 50% output clock is also pres...
